The attack on Columbus : and its architect, Candelario Cervantes

Abstract

In this article I propose to make a reconstruction of the Columbus raid, this will be done with scarcely used sources to date, like the interviews made by UTEP to characters involved in the event above. Just like telegrams and newspaper notes recovered from digital archives, the first taken from The Office of the Historian, and the hemerography from A Portal for Texas History and Chronicling America. For these diaries are examined both from Texas and New Mexico. Moreover, I pretend to provide a biographical semblance of Candelario Cervantes and to manage the thesis that it was him and that it was him who planned the raid, as opposed to Villa, the way the popular idea conceives it. This, of course, will be backed by both secondary and primary sources. Also, the symbolic dimension of the attack will be analyzed, and the transcendence of the event by the nationalistic perspective of Mexico and Latin America.
