Organization of workers in the glass industry in Nuevo León (1936-1946)

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze how the labor organizations of the glass industry in Nuevo León transformed in the way of meeting the labor demands of their members. The significance of this labor sector lies in the fact that it maintained constant union and strike activity during the decades of the 30s and 40s of the 20th century, until its incorporation into a white (company) union in 1947, until the end of the 1940s. 70 when they resumed their activities.
Special attention is placed on the Single Union of Glass Industry Workers (SUTIV), linked to the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), due to the type of corporate relationship it maintained with the federal government in the indicated period. Due to the above, it is stated that the political interests of the union leaders were above the demands of the workers. In addition to the above, the perspectives of the members of the SUTIV union base regarding their leaders are reviewed in the midst of a strike registered in the company Cristalería S.A. in 1946. The documentary sources produced during the governments in power were consulted, analyzed and interpreted, as well as the newspapers El Porvenir and El Norte.
