Abstract

Industrial production understood as the mechanization of productive activities in a given physical space, began to be established in Mexico systematically in the second half of the 19th century. At that time, England, France, and the United States had been under this capitalist mode of production for several decades, their experiences being a frame of reference in the projects of Mexican and foreign investors in the country.

To a certain extent, the factory, seen as a production unit made up of the facilities and controller of the entire production process, had managed to consolidate itself, surpassing the artisan workshops in volume of production and importance. The organization of work in the same space made it easier for industrialists to control production and workers, in addition to reducing operating costs.
