Abstract

The Mexican-United States War (1846-1848) was one of the most important historical events of the 19th century for both nations. Historiographically in Mexico, this conflict has been reduced in a nationalist and simplified manner to isolated figures of patriotism such as the “bravery” of the Children Heroes in the Battle of Chapultepec (1847), in addition to being limited to a mere narrative discourse of the conflict. This gave rise to the idea of generalizing a combative feeling on the part of the American nation in favor of this conflict, suppressing ideas or positions that were expressed through groups or societies and their respective media, as is the objective of this work: analyze the selected issues between 1846 and 1848 of the newspaper “Advocate of Peace”, which represents an interesting case of argumentative analysis about the opposition to the war with Mexico. The main contribution of said research is historiographic and the drive to carry out research work with a primary source as its object of study, such as the media, whether printed or not.
