Abstract
Since its creation, photography has been considered a valuable tool for capturing reality, and to use those images to study and understand the past. The present article will make a brief description of how the photographic medium arrived at both Mexico and the United States, followed by how the first examples of war photography in history were taken during the conflict of 1846 to 1848. After this narration, the article ends with an iconographic and iconological analysis of a daguerrotype taken at the city of Saltillo during the American occupation, with the objective of understanding how the circumstances surrounding the taking of the picture influenced the captured image.
