Abstract
Tepache was prohibited in the New Spain during a period for both moral and economic reasons. This work aims to understand the reasons for the prohibition of this beverage, focusing on the actions taken by the Crown to enforce control measures, the extent to which this beverage was of interest to the authorities, and the motivations of those who produced and sold tepache. Documents from the Archivo General de la Nación (AGN), el Archivo Histórico del Municipio de Monterrey (AHMM) are used, along with bibliography related to the prohibition of the main alcoholic beverages known as "chiringuito" in the territory of New Spain.Downloads
